Conversations with a Rabbit : Malthusian Mambo ?
Ms Rabbit was apparently making up for lost time and meals after her day at the UN , and barely looked up when I came out onto the patio.
It didn't bother me. I had a nice glass of Beringer's Zifandel/Chardonnay blend,so I sat down and sipped it in silence. Mmmm... 80 % sweet white wine cut with 20 % dry Chardonnay. Nice taste and balance , and a nice change from the world around us.
There are so many aggravating things going on in the world , it is sometimes hard to single one out. From time to time, one can escape - even if only for a few minutes -into the many-faceted world of the Internet ; but today was not a day for that. Some of the websites I visit fairly sizzled with hate, and crackled with spikey outbursts of rage , as long-smouldering flame wars broke out anew.
"Hey !",called Ms Rabbit , interrupting my reverie. "What are we drinking ?"
I picked a little bunch of sweetgrass and dipped it into my drink. "Here. It's something new." I sailed it over to her,and she caught it-quite adroitly. " Let me know what you think."
"Hit me again", she urged, doing rabbit things with her nose. So I did, and for a while we sat there companionably, savoring the grape (as it were.)
" Well," I finally asked. " How did your day at the UN go ? Did you learn anything ?"
" Ummm... Let me put it this way: I learned you Humans spend a lot of time hating each other ! "
"Ah ! And you Rabbits are different, I suppose ? "
"Definitely !! Our motto is : "Make MORE - Not War !"
" Uh-huh ! The old Malthusian Mambo ..."
Ms Rabbit twitched her nose again. " More like a Samba..."
I shook my head, trying to clear it of the unbidden image of lustful rabbits dancing in a Conga line...led by Ms Rabbit ?
Phew ! Time to put down the wine , and return to battle stations on the Internet !
