Ms Rabbit showed up unexpectedly this morning. She was hopping mad-and-she was wearing her little " Hillary 08 " button again.
I know Ms Rabbit is pretty conservative. Side-mounted eyes tend to make a critter a lot more cautious ; but she is also sensitive to what she calls "gender issues" ,and has a wry ( or rye, depending on how hungry she is) admiration for Hillary Clinton.
"Did you watch the Democratic debates ?", she shrilled.
"Bits and pieces", I answered. "Truthfully, I'm more interested in the local elections-which are less than a week away".( New Jersey Proposition 4 is one that deserves a "YES" vote,in my opinion: it would end archaic language in our State Contitution that insults the mentally handicapped, and that besmirches our reputation as well...but I digress.)
"Humph ! Did you see how those awful...men ganged up on poor Hillary ? Disgraceful !!"
" Yeah, I noticed that. A lot of people in both parties got a big charge out of that...but I think they practically guaranteed her the nomination."
Ms Rabbit was startled-to say the least. " I thought you didn't like Hillary !"
" I don't ," I snapped. "But she's actually an improvement on the loud-mouthed empty suits running against her;and if they thought the image of a bunch of Beltway Boys ganging up on a woman is going to endear them to the voting public, they need to check with their constituents once in a while ."
"There are a lot of women out there who might start out not liking Hillary ; then see her bullied by male fellow Democrats; who might start remembering the times they were bullied and disrespected by male supervisors,or husbands,or fathers,or automobile mechanics.... (You get the idea.) They're very apt to start bonding with her,and saying: " Hey ! It's our turn now !!"
" Wow !",said Ms Rabbit . " People are going to think you're crazy for talking like that !"
I shrugged. " They already think I'm crazy for talking to a rabbit !"

Follow-up : Hillary Clinton, speaking at Wellesly, derides the "Old Boys Club" ,and urges students to help her break "the glass ceiling" of politics.
