I'm still trying to figure out why the International Olympic Committee selected Beijing, China as the site of the 2008 Olympics !
In terms of health risk alone, it is harder to imagine a more inhospitable venue.
The air is so polluted, Olympic athletes are being warned to arrive as late as humanly possible - if they wish to avoid permanent respiratory damage. They are also warned to be extra careful about what they eat and drink.
When it comes to Human Rights violations, the Chinese are still the reigning "champs". The murder of 1,000,000 Tibetans since 1949 comes to mind-as does the use of Tibet as a colony for the re-settlement of China's Han population; and the ongoing genocide against the Muslim Uighur (plus the conversion of Uighur lands into nuclear test sites.)
US Representative Tom Lantos argues persuasively we must not allow China to turn the Games into the "Genocide Olympics" .
The way things are going in Tibet, it appears that is what we are going to have !!

Nice site and will be back - printed material to share with my husband tonight - I am at work so must get with it.
