Today,a new President is to be inaugurated.
He wasn't my candidate of choice - but, when I think about it , none of them really were !
Some of the country will see today as the end of a long nightmare. Others will see it as the beginning of one. Personally, I think it's time to set aside the Pre-election passions and settle down to the real task of mending the country.
Think about it for a minute: All of us ( with the exception of a few wild-eyed kooks ) are sitting at the same table: some on the right; some on the left. If we're ever going to eat dinner,we're going to have to reach across, and pass the platters to one another.
Recession and all, there is enough food to go around ; enough money to invest in our badly neglected infrastructure ; enough to invest in ourselves as a country.
If we aren't willing to invest in ourselves, who else is going to want to ?
It's also time to admit there is no such thing as real victory in the War against Terror.
We may win battles here and battles there - but the bastards pop up to snipe at us, even as our "victory parades" thunder by.
It's time - I think - to bring our people home...and let our overseas critics handle (or mishandle) things for a while. Let them spend some of the money they saved while we played "World Policeman". Let them stage their own parades, and send their own youngsters off to be killed or mutilated !
The present recession will end - almost as abrubtly as it began ; because the main difference between a recession and boom times is PUBLIC CONFIDENCE.
From what I'm seeing, the public is enormously confident in the new President - and will give him the chance to do whatever needs to be done - as long as it is lawful.
In short, I congratulate Mr. Obama, and wish him every success!
(As always, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.)
